It used to be that celebs were always bringing out their own perfumes and aftershaves. From Glow by J Lo to Kylie’s Sweet Darling, you couldn’t go for a month without a new scent being launched. However, it seems as though the trends have moved to the world of alcohol.
In recent years, the world of whisky has seen a huge surge in celebrity brands – adding a touch of glamour and personal flair to the age-old ‘old man’s’ spirit. From Hollywood legends to Premier League footballers, these names include football legend David Beckham, Ryan Reynolds and even Matthew McConaughey, whose ventures into the whisky business have certainly garnered attention.
Here, we’ll take a look at some of the top-rated celebrity whisky brands and see whether or not they have what it takes to compete with the big names.
David Beckham: Haig Club
You may have put a Premier League bet on Beckham being named man of the match in the past… but would you have ever bet on him being the biggest player in the whisky world?
Renowned for his incredible skills on the pitch – and his global appeal, David Beckham has taken his skills elsewhere by venturing into the world of whisky with Haig Club. Collaborating with famous British entrepreneur Simon Fuller and the alcoholic drink giant Diageo, Beckham introduced Haig Club Single Grain Scotch Whisky back in 2014.
With its distinctive blue bottle packaging, this whisky boasts a smooth, appealing taste – and it’s the perfect choice for both seasoned connoisseurs and those who are just trying out the world of Scotch whisky.
Bob Dylan: Heaven’s Door
The legendary musician may be known for wandering the Streets of London – but Bob Dylan has also wandered into the whisky scene with Heaven’s Door, a brand that he has created to reflect his artistic spirit.
Launched back in 2018, Heaven’s Door offers a variety of whiskies, each one housed in perfectly and creatively designed bottles that are inspired by his ironwork sculptures. His collection includes a Straight Tennessee Bourbon, a Double Barrel Whiskey, and his own unique Rye Whiskey. Are they any good? Well, the answer my friend, is blowing in the wind…
Conor McGregor: Proper No. Twelve
Next, we have the mixed martial artist and businessman Conor McGregor, who entered the whisky scene with Proper No. Twelve – named after the Dublin 12 area where he grew up.
Launched in 2018, McGregor’s tipple is an Irish whiskey that has become known for its smooth and rich character. However, unlike many celebrities in the industry, his involvement goes way beyond just endorsing the drink. In fact, he is actively engaged in the brand, emphasising its Irish roots and the importance of community support.
Matthew McConaughey: Longbranch
Alright, alright, alright… Oscar-winning actor Matthew McConaughey is also on the scene, having collaborated with Wild Turkey Distillery to create Longbranch Bourbon. Another whisky released in 2018 (must have been the year for it), Longbranch is a Kentucky straight bourbon that has its own unique production process involving mesquite charcoal filtration.
McConaughey’s proud Texan roots and his love for the Wild Turkey brand have hugely influenced the creation of a whiskey that has been created to reflect both sophistication and Southern charm.
Mila Kunis and Jim Beam
It’s not just for men…. The stunning actress Mila Kunis has teamed up with Jim Beam to add a touch of gorgeous Hollywood glamour to this world-famous iconic bourbon brand, similar to the luxurious Kentucky bourbon, Maker’s Mark.
As the global partner and spokesperson for Jim Beam, Ms Kunis brings her charm, enthusiasm and good looks to promote the brand. Jim Beam is a family-owned distillery with a rich history, and with Kunis as a part of its legacy, it can only be good news.
Matthew Rhys and Penderyn
Last on our list is Welsh actor Matthew Rhys, who has partnered with Penderyn Distillery to create a limited-edition Welsh whisky called Penderyn Madeira. This collaboration has brought us a gorgeous single malt whisky in Madeira wine casks, designed to show off the unique flavours of Wales.
What’s more, Rhys’s involvement adds a personal touch to the whisky – celebrating his Welsh heritage.
These are just a few… there are many more out there, and we’re sure there are many more to come. When celebrity glamour mixes with whisky grit, the results can be incredible.
